Moorpark College Professor Alfred Miller is a man of many talents, with experience in radio, acting, and music.
It is only recently however, that Miller had an opportunity to showcase his talents with the release of his full-length album, “American Love.”
The album has a classic jazz- type of feel conveyed by Miller’s deep melodic singing style. He performs selections taken from famous artists, such as Louis Armstrong, Gershwin, and Frank Sinatra. Songs included on the CD include “The Way You Look Tonite,” “What a Wonderful World,” and “Unchained Melody”.
“‘American Love’ is not just a tribute to the great singers and songwriters of our time,” said Miller. “It is a tribute to American love and the expression of love that Americans share when supporting each other in times of need.” The selection of songs on the album coincides with Miller’s thoughts, allowing the listener to take their own sense of American love out of each song.
The professor of radio and television has always been interested in working on an album in order to express himself. “Music brings voice to my heart,” said Miller.
Growing up in a suburb of New York City, Miller was always surrounded by music, art, and literature. His father was an actor/comedian and his mother was a teacher. It was this upbringing that led Miller to discover his passions for performing and teaching at an early age.
Miller got his start in entertainment at the University of Illinois where he was the president of WILL-TV out of Urbana, Illinois. He has also worked as a news anchor, a broadcaster, and a writer just to name a few of his many different professions.
Miller attended the University of Georgia where he got his start teaching professionally as the assistant professor of journalism.
Miller also founded KCPB-FM, based out of Thousand Oaks, which was the first public radio program out of Ventura County.
Whether it was performing in his community or performing professionally Miller always managed to keep his passions alive. It is this passion that he shares with his students that make him the effective and beloved professor he is today.
Miller will often share his album with his students by awarding them a copy of “American Love” if they participate in class. It is this gesture that has made him one of the most popular professors around the Moorpark College campus.
If you would like to receive a copy of Al Miller’s album, all you have to do is contact Professor Al Miller.

Last year, for Valentines Day our local community church vocal group was raising money by coming to your home and sing a love song. Long story short, they sang Falling in Love With You. I began to look online for a version that struck a chord in me and discovered Al Miller. (A young man by the same name was my high school boyfriend in the mid 60’s, coincidentally.) in winter I work a sometimes cold and lonely job and now have some love songs to help me get through my shift. One might say I’m in love again. I dream this is the voice my partner would have if he wasn’t so self conscious.

Hello All, I know it’s been over thirty years since we’ve seen or spoken to each other (car dealership in Oxnard) and I apologize for that, but I’ve thought of you often. I’m very glad that you are doing well, and I hope the same for your family. You were my favorite professor and guiding light back in the day and I’m proud to say that we broke bread together. Keep doing what you do best, Professor Miller; educating and inspiring!!! God bless, Mike Payne
