If you’re looking for authentic Hawaiian style ice cream and shaved ice surrounded by breathtaking paintings then Tutu’s Hawaiian Ice Cream Shack is the place for you.
It doesn’t matter what kind of ice cream you are in the mood for because Tutu’s can satisfy just about every craving out there.
Some of the more popular Hawaiian flavors that are served are Halipia, a coconut flavored ice cream, Lilikoi, a passion fruit flavor, Islands Choice, a banana nut flavor, and Maori Delight, an ice cream with kiwi lime flavor.
Tutu’s also offers ice cream for anyone in the mood for just regular generic ice cream such as chocolate, cookie dough, black cherry, sherbet, caramel, and of course vanilla. Sherry and Lee Berube, the owners, like to keep up to date with what customers want.
“We like to offer what the people want,” said Sherry Berube.
If you can’t decide what flavor to choose from then there is Tutu’s Pupu Platter which lets you pick eight flavors for $4.75.
Tutu is the name for Grandma in Hawaiian and Sherry Berube was just becoming a Grandma when the shop was originated about a year ago. The whole shop was designed by Sherry including all the paintings which were hand painted by her.
Sherry and Lee picked Simi Valley as their location to be closer to their daughter who was studying at Pepperdine at the time in 1999. They have enjoyed Simi Valley and the people here.
“The people in Simi have really opened their arms to us,” said Sherry Berube.
Tutu’s also offers authentic Hawaiian shaved ice with a choice of up to three flavors. Hawaiian shaved ice is nothing like the familiar snow cones that are offered at several places.
“Once you taste our shaved ice you will never go back to snow cones,” said Sherry Berube, “you can really taste the difference.”
There are also tempting ice cream creations that Tutu’s offers. There is the Aloha Friday that includes one scoop of ice cream with one choice of topping for $3.50. The Pineapple Puka is a pineapple ring with one scoop of vanilla ice cream and choices of toppings. But if you are sharing with another person you might want to try The Big Kahuna which includes three scoops of any ice cream, fresh pineapple, three toppings, nuts, and whip cream for $6.50.
But Tutu’s doesn’t just offer great ice cream and shaved ice, the atmosphere is very peaceful and soothing.
“It makes me feel like I’m in the days of the beach boys,” said customer Christine Tehrani.
On Saturday, Oct. 2, there will be the first anniversary party at Tutu’s. They will be giving out free ice cream and shaved ice with live performances. Tutu’s Hawaiian Ice Cream Shack is located at 4332 Cochran St in Simi Valley and opens at 1:00 p.m. everyday and closes at 9:00 p.m. everyday except for Fridays and Saturdays at 10:00 p.m.
