Students planning to attend classes spring 2006 can begin registering as early as Nov. 14, depending on their registration time that is based on the number of units completed.
Priority registration is from Nov. 14 through Dec. 5 and is for continuing students with appointments. Returning students can start registering on Dec. 5 and open registration starts on Dec. 8. To check on appointment times go to Webstar on the Moorpark College website at MoorparkCollege.edu or at www.vcccd.net.
Moorpark College Counselor Denise Avila encourages students to see counselors before they register for classes to make sure they are taking the right classes.
“Students should try to see counselors now because it gets crazy,” said Avila.
New courses are being offered at Oxnard and Moorpark. Oxnard has added Physics I and II lab classes and also Process of Science where students will learn the basic concepts and procedures for scientific research. These classes are all worth one unit.
Moorpark will have a Computer Reading & Writing Tools class which will introduce computer software programs to facilitate reading and writing and is a 1.5 unit class.
Moorpark is also offering Learning Communities courses which are two courses that are combined into one six-unit class to marry two subjects into one main topic. A popular learning community will be the Chronicles of Narnia class taught by Professors Janice Daurio and Nils Slattum. This class will combine English M01B and Philosophy M01 and will connect the books of Narnia with philosophical themes and research topics for papers. Another learning community offered at Moorpark will be the Human Sexuality and Contemporary American Film class taught by Professors Sally Ponce-O’Rourke and Riley Dwyer. This course will cover the psychology of human sexuality with films.
Students who wish to transfer to a UC or CSU in fall 2006 are also encouraged to see counselors this month. Admission applications for UCs and CSUs are due by Nov 30. Counselors will make sure that all requirements are met for transfer and also help with essays for the UC application.
Appointments with counselors are limited and must be made as soon as possible. Go to the counseling office located in the administration building or call at 378-1428 for appointments.
