Jim Wyman, director of Forensics at Moorpark College, had the Open Division Sweepstakes Award named after him last year, honoring his many years of commitment.
Wyman has been the Director of Forensics at Moorpark College since 1974, and it was at last year’s National Tournament and Convention that a new division was added to the sweepstakes. There are three divisions, divided by the amount of entries by college forensics participants. The Wyman award will be for the large class size division.
“We are proud of our record at Phi Rho Pi. No junior college comes close to our record,” Wyman boasted.
After the MC program was founded by Dick Strong in 1971, Wyman was assistant director for two years, and then co-directed for five years before inheriting the team.
His team has received first place in Nationals eight times, second place nine times, and third place ten times. They’ve never been out of the top eight. No other junior college has approached those levels.
