VCCCD Chancellor Dr. Jamillah Moore has many plans to help improve our district, which she is already in the process of implementing.
“I’m happy to be here,” said Moore. “Everyone has been really welcoming and I am excited to see all three campuses continue to be successful.”
Moore, who took over for retiring Chancellor James Meznek in July, has strong roots in the Community College system and brings lots of experience.
She first attended a community college and her first teaching job was at one as well. She has worked at many different levels within the community college system. She was the director of legislative and community college services with School Services of California, the senior vice-chancellor for the California Community College Chancellor’s Office and an intern superintendent/president of Compton Community College District.
She was most recently at LA City College as the president before becoming the VCCCD Chancellor.
“I really believe whole heartedly in the community college mission,” said Moore.
While at LACC she took them from probation to accreditation, which she regards as a high achievement.
She joined VCCCD because she really liked some of the goals put in place in the district. Moore said that some of the goals that she saw lined up with the ones that she had.
“What I hope to achieve is stability with our accreditation,” said Moore.
Moore plans to do this by demonstrating to the accreditation commission that we understand the rules and regulations that are put in place and that we are being compliant.
Moore is not in charge of developing the budgets but she is in charge of making sure that they are balanced. Because Prop 30 passed, she said that the district is financially stable for now.
“This district is one of the most fiscally sound districts I have been in so far,” said Moore.
Moore said she tries to support the colleges 100% and work with faculty and students to reach their goals.
“Community college students are some of the hardest working students that I know,” said Moore.
