New courses approved for next semester

Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees approved new courses for Moorpark College in their meeting on Feb.11.
The new Criminal Justice (CJ) and Computer Network SystemEngineering (CNSE) Department courses that will be included for the Fall 2014 semester are CJ M09 Bujinkan—Practical Self Defense and CNSE M67VMware—vSphere Fundamentals.
“CJ M09 is a course supporting interest of all students but specifically for those interested in [law enforcement] career as they need to be exposed to self-defense issues,” said CJ instructor Leeann Mulville.
Chad Basile is a master instructor and was certified by the Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) inBujinkan.Basileexplained clearly the importance of Bujinkanin mastering self-defense.
“Bujinkan is a form of [defenses which] combined martial arts and self-protection,” said Basile. “CJ M09 is a good introduction on how to protect yourself, others and control others.”
Students who are interested in this course can observe Basile’s Bujinkan demonstration on Multicultural Day, which is scheduled to take place on April 15.
CJ M09 will be structured as a one hour lecture and two hours of physical practice class.
Full-time faculty member of the CNSE Department is Edmond Garcia.He’s excited and passionate about the upcoming virtualization course.
“Virtualization is one of the key strategies enabling cloud computing which is widely used by most large companies worldwide,” Garcia said.
VMware Corporation is one of the world’s leaders in this widespread technology.
“Many employers have been asking our students during job interviews what their exposure to Virtualization has been [through] their college training,” Garcia said.
Therefore, the Department has decided to offer this course in order to strengthen [CNSE] programs viability in helping students with employment.
“We are just as excited as students because this is state-of-the-art technology and it is changing the computing landscape in so many positive ways,” Garcia said.
Garcia also predicts the positive benefits Virtualization technology will offer for the medical community in the future.
CNSE Department will provide training for students using VMWAre’sESXi platform, which is used by organizations to provide cloud computing systems in CNSE M67.
Both CJ M09 and CNSE M67 will be offered in the upcoming Fall 2014 semester.
