Blues festival coming to Moorpark College
April 22, 2014
If you are interested in blues, you will soon have the opportunity to experience it. Moorpark College will host for the second time in a row the Ninth Annual Ventura County Blues Festival, on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This year’s lineup features some of the most recognized artists in the blues’ world. The all-day event will start out with “Lightnin’ Willie,” winner of the 2013 Ventura County Blues Society Band Challenge, who will be joined on stage by seven other acclaimed blues artists.
Musician and Founder of the festival Michael John Basowski expressed his excitement of this being its second year with Moorpark College as a home.
“I love the campus and the people from the foundation,” said Basowski. “I am excited to come to the foundation and work with them instead of private entities.”
This festival is a non-profit event that benefits several community charities.
“[This event] supports the foundation for scholarships, as well as the American Diabetes Association,” Basowski. “We also support the American Health Center, and the free clinic.”
Basowski’s vision of making an impact in his community led him to host his first festival with only a few people in his backyard. Nine years later, the festival promises to be bigger and better.
“I’m expecting a huge crowd,” said Basowski. “But I try to be realistic, so I’m expecting at least 3,000.”
Other attractions at the festival will include food vendors, a bar, craft booths, as well as a guitar giveaway.
Tickets will be sold at the door for $30 or online for $21, and for the first time V.I.P tickets will be offered for $100.
Seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, and audience members will not be allowed to bring outside food or beverages. The stage will be located on the east end of the soccer field and vendors will be in the back.
