New Student Ambassador positions come to rescue those in need

A new on-campus job has been introduced to the busy Information Center that is located in Fountain Hall.

Fountain Hall is currently the new hub of information, since most of the student services have been moved from the Administration Building. The move has resulted in a high number of students coming into Fountain Hall for information, ranging from general directions to looking up academic transcripts. Students would often wait in line in front of the Drop-in Counseling desk for some of their questions.

“I think it’s a major problem for us [the counseling department], as these students slow down those with actual need of counseling during busy times,” said student worker, Jesse Alcala, 20.

With this in mind, the Outreach and Admission office has called for a new student worker position to accommodate the increasing needs for information more efficiently.

“The position is called Student Ambassador and it’s divided into two divisions,” Matriculation Specialist Maureen Rauchfuss said. “One division would work in the Information Center and the other would work with the Outreach Coordinator.”

The Information Center is located in the center of Fountain Hall under the First Stop sign.

Student Ambassadors who work in the information center would assist current students and represent the college to potential incoming students.

“This division of the Ambassadors is brand new,” Rauchfuss said. “We’ve never had this type of division before.”

The Ambassadors have always served in both capacities, but it has been divided to have a good coverage for both the information center and the Outreach office.

The Ambassadors will be trained to maintain a vast knowledge of the Moorpark College campus. They should be able to help out a person in need by giving them the correct information or directing them to the right department.

“It’s a great idea and a very helpful approach for students,” said Amy Ciardenas, chemistry major, 21.

Potential candidates should be a full-time student who has at least twelve or more units to be completed at Moorpark College after Spring semester.

“We’re hoping to hire up to eight students depending on the budget,” Rauchfuss said.

A student with an outgoing, helpful and self-motivated personality would be ideal for this position. They should be able to work independently, multi-task and deal with interruptions.

Students who are interested in applying for this position can apply through the CTC Joblink portal or contact Maureen Rauchfuss at (805) 378-1414 for more information.
