‘Viva L’Opera’ premieres at Moorpark College
May 3, 2014
After the success of the Choral Concert and the Chamber Music Series, choir and orchestra are feeling the pressure once again. Viva L’Opera is a unique combination performance that will take place on May 9 and 10 in the Performing Arts Center, featuring choir and orchestra.
Choir director Jinyoung Jang and Orchestra director James Song are teaming up to organize this upcoming performance the Moorpark College community will not want to miss. Viva L’Opera will consist of various opera scenes and will include renowned pieces from operas such as “Madama Butterfly” and “Rigoletto.”
“These days, young people have less [of a ] chance to see opera,” said Jang. “It will be a great opportunity to have an experience to feel the inspiration of opera.”
While performing on stage in front of dozens, even hundreds of people, may not be a new experience for most of the choir and orchestra members, Viva L’Opera will still be an opportunity for all the members to shine and showcase their talent. Jang has noticed that while his students may not be as nervous as before the Choral Concert, some soloists feel the pressure to be perfect on stage.
“[The soloists] are nervous, but much more excited,” said Jang.
Viva L’Opera will have two showings on May 9 and 10. For tickets and more information visit www.moorparkcollege.edu/current_students/performing_arts
