Nurse-ing after Moorpark

By Saffana Hijaz, Staff Writer

With Majors Week keeping all undecided and decided major students busy and on their feet, it is no surprise that one of the most popular majors at Moorpark College would have booths for the event.

Organized by Moorpark College’s counselor for Nursing, Lydia Basmajian, different Colleges and Universities for the Nursing Program represented themselves to current nursing students, and even those interested that are not in the program just yet.

“The whole idea is to inform current nursing students of what’s availible to them besides Moorpark,” said Basmajian.

All colleges known for their nursing programs made an appearance on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Raider Walk. Nursing representatives, recruiters and counselors were filled with joy and smiling faces as students came by and interacted with the men and women behind the booths.

“There’s a big push for nurses to get their BSN (Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing) and higher,” said Chamberlain College of Nurses Healthcare Development Sahar Sedadi.

The main goal she has for students, as all college nursing representatives and counselors have, is for them to think about nursing after their Associates Degrees.

Schools that made a showing at the event included: Grand Canyon University, Chamberlain College of Nursing, Azusa Pacific University’s School of Nursing, Mount St. Mary’s College, University of Texas Arlington, National University, and Channel Islands.

Not a school, but a home health and hospice agency, Assisted also made an appearance. If you are looking for a career in nursing, you may send a resume to [email protected] or call 805-371-9988 for nursing job opportunities.

National University will have two more information session dates this semester at the Oxnard Campus 1000 Town Center Drive, Suite 125, Oxnard, 93036 on May 20 and June 17 at 6:00 p.m.

Although not all the schools provide the same accommodation for students such as online or in person, or even a need to receive your RN (Registered Nurse) before you apply to get your BSN, it would be best to check in with these schools if you have any interest, and make sure you know what is needed beforehand.
