With the Transfer Wall of Fame at the center of Raider Walk, the Transfer Social, which was put on by the Career and Transfer Center and Associated Students, provided the campus with an opportunity to celebrate the transfer of many of its students. With free hot dogs and frozen yogurt, along with the smooth sound of live jazz music, the event was all smiles and good wishes as the last full week of the school before finals nears its end.

The event culminated into what Judi Gould, the director of the Career and Transfer Center says has been “the best Transfer Social ever.”

In a show of celebration and opportunity, the Transfer Social brought students and staff together to socialize and enjoy hot dogs from Hot Diggity Dog and Frozen Yogurt from Bliss Frozen Yogurt, all free of charge thanks to the Assosiated Students. 10 college reps were also set up along Raider Walk to answer last minute questions from transferring students and give more information to those who aren’t leaving just yet.

Hundreds of students gathered at one time or another in front of Raider Walk for the social, many stopping to take a look at the Transfer Wall of Fame to look for their own name and the names of friends, and to ask how to get theirs put on it. The wall of fame is a symbol of the success that is created each year by the students and staff of Moorpark College.

“We have fifteen thousand students here and they’re incredible,” says 20-year-old Bryce Chanes, an aerospace engineering major who will be transferring to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. “There are extremely talented people who choose to go to community college and Moorpark College is one of the best that I know of, I’ve had an extremely awesome experience.”

A big part of the Transfer Social was the opportunity for students to network with other students who might be transferring to the same schools. This could be done either by word of mouth or with help from the Career and Transfer Center, which was creating a networking list for student as the event went on. The list will still be available to students after the social in the Career and Transfer Center.

As the spring semester nears its end and many students prepare to move on to bigger things, the social was also a time for students to look back on what Moorpark College has done for them.

“Moorpark built a foundation for me and gave me a direction when I was undeclared,” said 20-year-old kinesiology major Mckenna Lee, a soon-to-be student at California State University Northridge.

Aside from giving guidance and direction, students were grateful for the friendships and the experiences created throughout the years.

“Its been really nice,” said 21-year-old Melissa Tabone, a child development major who will be transferring to California State University Chico. “I’ve made a lot of friends, I’ve met a lot of teachers I really enjoyed who really knew what they were talking about which made it all worth while.”

Perhaps the most important thing that the Transfer Social did was create an atmosphere of accomplishment for students who are planning on transferring in the coming years to follow. What better than a wall of successful names and a gathering in their honor to inspire the rest of Moorpark College, to continue to strive towards greatness.

“Your experience here at Moorpark College is what you make of it,” said Bryce Chanes, who is also the president of the Engineering Club and a member of the Jazz band that played at the social. “It all has to do with the commitment and energy that students and faculty are putting in.”

Whether or not students are transferring after this semester, the Transfer Social was a time of celebration for everyone at Moorpark College; it was a way to say good job, good luck, and goodbye.
