Moorpark thirstily awaits ‘Dracula’
August 21, 2014
Steven Dietz’s adaption of the Bram Stoker renowned novel “Dracula” is coming to life at Moorpark College’s Performing Arts Center just on time for the Halloween season. This dark thriller tells the tale of Dracula, the world’s most popular and blood thirsty vampire.
“This is not a funny Dracula, this is a dark and brooding Dracula,” said John Loprieno, Theatre Arts Director and Department Chair.
During open auditions on Aug. 20, actors gathered at the Performing Arts Center main stage, with hopes of earning a part in the anticipated play. A variety of actors, from first timers to veterans, awaited to showcase their passion and talent for both “Dracula” and the art of theater.
Liberal arts major Kate Roach, 23, auditioned for the parts of Lucy Westenra and Mina Harker. “It’s hard outweighing the pros and cons of two great characters and deciding which one I’d like to play most,” said Roach. “Both characters have components that make them fun to play.”
The actors passionately portrayed the characters they auditioned for. Their furor and clear love for theatre resonated with the actors, each patiently waiting their turn.
“I’m excited about this play (in general), I hope it will resonate with the audience,” said theatre major Mariah Martin, 20.
Auditions for those who could not make it to the Aug. 20 auditions will take place Aug. 21 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. “Dracula” will be held in the Performing Arts Center from Oct. 16-18 and 23-25 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 19 and 26 at 2 p.m. For tickets and additional information, visit: http://sunny.moorparkcollege.edu/theatre/
