Dr. Larry O. Miller, retired district faculty and board member, passed away on Sept. 2, at the age of 75.

Miller taught at Moorpark College and after retirement, joined the Board of Trustees. Over his six years on the board, he held the titles, trustee, vice-chair and chair.

“He was an immense person,” said Trustee Larry Kennedy.

On Tuesday, time was taken out of the Board of Trustees meeting to honor Miller. After a short slide show of him, the board members said a few words about Miller and what he did. Each member remembered his dedication to the students and his efforts in helping those in need.

“I always admired and respected his efforts in helping those less fortunate,” said Trustee Bernardo Perez.

The board also remembered a man who spoke his mind.

After the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, Chair Arturo Hernandez mentioned a memory involving Miller. Being an atheist, Miller would replace the line “under god” when saying the Pledge of Allegiance, with “under the constitution.”

“I learned from him,” said Hernandez. “I wish I had the opportunity to tell him that.”

Miller graduated from U.C. Santa Barbra with a Ph. D in Biology and began teaching at MC in 1973. He retired from MC after 32 years. He then served on the Board of Trustees from 2004 until 2012.

The celebration of Dr. Larry Odell Miller’s life will be held on September 19 at 3:30 p.m. It will take place at Casa Pacifica Gym, 1722 S. Lewis Road, in Camarillo. It is encouraged to bring a donation for Casa Pacifica instead of the tradition flowers and gifts.
