Heading into their bye week, the Raiders seem pretty optimistic that they can turn things around and have a successful season despite starting 0-2. After sealing a huge win over Orange Coast the Raiders improved their record to 1-2
Quarterback Zach LaBar leads the team on offense with his 580 yards passing, three touchdown passes and a completion percentage of 65.8. Quarterback Nick Davis has thrown for 281 yards, one touchdown, one interception and has a completion percentage of 66.7.
“We know we have been leaving point on the board,” said quarterback Zach LaBar. “I can’t speak for the defense but on the offensive side we just have to take advantage of whats given to us and execute in order to do what we know we are capable of.”
Raekeal Beasley leads the running-backs with 254 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. His counterpart Dontavious Grace has been steady by adding 114 yards rushing and a touchdown.
The wide-receivers have been a key factor for the Raiders on offense with Cody Tuttle leading the way. He has stacked up 292 yards receiving and two touchdown catches thus far. Julin Burrell has added 185 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders while also contributing to special teams with 248 yards on returns from punts and kickoffs.
On the defensive side of the ball, line-backer James Allen leads the team in tackles with 19 and has one interception, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
“We just need to keep working,” said safety Jordan Francis. “We just have to trust each other because trust equals family.”
Over the course of three games, the Raiders are averaging 28.7 points per game while allowing on average 36.3 against them. On the ground the Raiders have been steady averaging 173.3 yards per game while through the air putting up 300.7 per game. The Raiders defense has been solid against the run only allowing 137 yards per game on the ground, but have allowed on average 322.3 yards through the air.
“It’s all about a matter of executing,” said running backs and tight ends coach Michael Puopolo. “We need to execute and clean some things up in order to play fundamentally sound.”
The Raiders still have time to turn things around especially after their huge win over Orange Coast to give them their first win of the season. Moorpark is currently tied for second place in its division with every team except for Cerritos whom is in first. The Raiders will have a week to rest up and focus on the next stage of their season against the Ventura Pirates. This classic rivalry will take place in Ventura on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
