Moorpark students seeking a chilling series of classic, frightening films this Halloween season can get their horror fix without going any further than some of Los Angeles’ best parks.
Street Food Cinema hosts some of the scariest movies every Saturday, including their screening of “The Ring” on Oct. 4. From June through October, Lifestyle Marketing and Events sponsors a large screen to be set up at local parks in Glendale, Pasadena, Los Angeles, and Culver City.
Before each movie, popular food trucks are available to customers for a delicious dinner on blankets and chairs in the park. Local trucks such as Chili Philosopher, Hurricane Truck, Oh my GaGa, and the Beignet truck all congregated in Glendale Central Park before the movie.
“As an owner, we love coming here,” said Nina Kaballierou, owner of Chili Philosopher truck. “It’s not our main source of money, but it’s great for the weekends.”
Local bands like The Street Hearts start the festivities with an hour set of their own songs. The Street Hearts’ folk and blues music style set the atmosphere for the haunting movie. The band started out their third performance at the SFC with the announcement of the upcoming release of their EP. Members of the band Andrew Giurgiun, Nicholai Hansen, Nick Valentini, Nate Schwartz, and Nick Velez performed their soulful songs including “Sister” and “Darlin’ Don’t Go.”
“We love coming out here to these events,” said Schwartz, vocalist. “Thank you everyone for joining us on this rollercoaster of songs.”
Master of Ceremonies Justin Rupple hosted a themed game centered on the popular horror film “The Ring” where contestants jumped through rings to grab VHS tapes in the shortest amount of time. After the winner was announced and rewarded two free movie tickets to an upcoming Street Food Cinema event, Rupple welcomed the audience to the movie.
“Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scariest movie in the last twenty years: ‘The Ring,’” said Rupple.
“Gremlins,” “The Conjuring,” “The Exorcist,” and “The Shining” are the upcoming movies for this Halloween season, with special guests Linda Blair and Zach Galligan. General admission is 12 dollars and reserved seating is 17 dollars. For more information on locations visit http://www.streetfoodcinema.com/.
