Students at Moorpark College in search of information on possible majors will receive answers at this semester’s November Major Awareness Month.

“We try to encourage students to major in something they love,” said The Career Transfer Center’s Coordinator Judi Gould.

The event was started last fall by Gould, her goal being to allow opportunities for students of all departments to explore the realities of different majors and to get questions answered regarding their current or possible majors.

From presentations to panels with professionals, Moorpark College’s Major Awareness Month has become a semester staple for all departments on campus, said Gould, and the event continue to increase in size. Plans are already in place to make this a per-semester event, with spring semester currently in the planning phase.

According to Gould, a recent study she read on the Legislative Student Success Act stated that students who have a major in mind tend to be more successful, and November Major Awareness Month can benefit students to achieve just that.
