The Lady Raiders looked superior and unstoppable in the WSC as they grabbed their 5th win a row Wednesday night at Allan Hancock.
The fiery hot streak could not be cooled as the Ladies swept the Hancock Bulldogs going 25-14, 25-18, and 25-12; winning by a combined 31 points.
The Lady Raiders streak continues with back to back sweeps, as the Ladies have only dropped three sets in their last five games.
The team surged over Hancock and Middle blocker Melissa Brueckner led the charge with 14 kills in the sweep.
“Preparing for each game we watch film and our coaches put together an awesome game plan” said Brueckner “Most of our success comes from sticking to that plan and making adjustments when needed.”
Crystal Parks followed Brueckner with 8 kills and one block. Mariana Kedzia also had a rock solid game with 5 kills and 14 digs.
“One of our main goals at the beginning of the season was to be #1 by November 1st” Kedzia said. “We are currently tied (as of Oct. 30) and reached our goal and are excited for the rest of the season.”
The Ladies now 6-1 moved into a tie for the first place seed in Conference but now sit half a game behind 7-1 Santa Barbara. The only conference loss in the season for the Lady Raiders.
“We’ve been studying them very hard and reviewing what went wrong when we played them last time (Santa Barbara swept Moorpark)” Brueckner said. “We will be preparing until the last minute to play against them with the momentum that we have.”
Moorpark clearly has all the momentum coming into this game looking for their sixth win a row.
Santa Barbara’s perfect season was spoiled at home by a 0-3 sweep courtesy of Pierce.
The Lady Raiders look to remain undefeated on their home court, where they are currently 2-0 with a four game home stand starting Wednesday.
On a sadder note, Moorpark will have to win the rest of the season without setter Lauren Burt. Burt suffered an injury Oct 24th in the second set versus Pierce. Burt has officially been announced as out for the season, leaving the starting job to freshmen setter Noelle Chodak.
Burt was a big part of the hot streak averaging 8.11 assists per set.
However, Chodak has played excellent coming off the bench this season and in her first solo start this season Chodak racked up 27 assists and 12 digs in Friday’s win over Hancock.
A sole first place seed is very much in the grasp for the Raider squad, as Santa Barbara visits Moorpark Wednesday Nov 5th for the Battle for the WSC North.
