Over 10 tons of snow was delivered to America’s Teaching Zoo over the weekend for their fourth annual fundraiser, ‘Arctic Lights.’
“All of the proceeds will go towards the medical care, and the feeding of the animals here at America’s Teaching Zoo,” said Exotic Animal Training and Management faculty member Kris Romero.
EATM hosted the event to raise money for the zoo and to give the public the opportunity to play in real snow and interact with the EATM staff. Hundreds of lights decorated the animal enclosures and trees at the zoo. The decorations were put up by second year EATM students.
On Saturday, the snow was laid out for the public to play in and Sunday the snow was open specifically for the zoo animals to play in and perform shows.
EATM had several booths set up along the zoo walkway for kids and guests to interact with. These booths included face painting, Christmas story telling, exotic birds such as parrots held by EATM students, raffle booths, and much more.
Along with the holiday booths, animal shows, and real snow for guests to play in, EATM students also put together and participated in a festive holiday flash mob for guests which took place Sunday, Dec. 6 at 12:45 p.m.
The amount of money raised for this event will be released at a future date.
The next big event at America’s Teaching Zoo will be the Spring Spectacular, which is a three weekend event, and will be the zoo’s 25th Anniversary for throwing this event.
