Super Bowl XLIX will feature the Seattle Seahawks vs the New England Patriots.

Super Bowl XLIX is today and many students on campus believe that the Patriots will beat the defending champs, the Seattle Seahawks, in this year’s Super Bowl. Students feel that the combination of quarterback Tom Brady and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick will be enough to defeat the defending champs.

“Their experience,” said kinesiology major Omar Alvarez. “Their connection between coach and quarterback is really good, plus the Pats are a more skilled team.”

This year Tom Brady will be in his sixth Super Bowl appearance trying to win his fourth Super Bowl, which would tie him with Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw as the only other quarterbacks to have four Super Bowl rings.

“It would be a big accomplishment for a team which has been good for a decade,” said Moorpark College student Grant Rubino, who was rooting for the Patriots. “It would give Tom Brady an extra check on his legacy. If he gets another Super Bowl win, it’s another victory for him.”

Although the Patriots are coming off an easy win and are favorites to win it all; they are going up against the Seattle Seahawks who are the defending champs and are looking to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the 2005 New England Patriots. The Seahawks are led by quarterback Russell Wilson and cornerback Richard Sherman. Seattle has the number one defense allowing 15.9 points per game and 267.1 total yards per game. Seattle fans believe that winning back-to-back Super Bowls is a must, and with quarterback Russell Wilson there’s no way they can lose.

“For the Seattle franchise it would mean a dynasty,” said Moorpark College student Liam Wilson, a Seahawks fan. “Russell Wilson is just a winner, he’s a leader.”

This year’s Super Bowl is predicted to be a close game by many students, with the Patriots winning by a field goal. Many students will either attend or throw their own Super Bowl party, and unfortunately some will miss the game due to work.

The game will be televised Sunday, February 1, 3:30 p.m. on NBC from Glendale, Ariz.
