The third annual Moorpark Groundhog Day 5K and one-mile Fun Run, organized by Moorpark High School’s Track and Cross Country Programs, is preparing to have another successful and fun day of races this upcoming Saturday.
“This will be a fun event for the whole family,” said Scott Mangers, the official race director. “We invite everyone in Moorpark and the surrounding area to join us at [Moorpark High School].”
On Feb. 7, starting at 8 a.m., the 5K race will officially begin. Racers will run a 3.1 mile loop around Moorpark High School and the surrounding neighborhoods, starting on Mountain Trail Street and ending on the track at the high school.
In addition to the 5K, there is also a one-mile Fun Run, designed mostly for kids 11 and under, that starts at approximately 9 a.m. on the track.
According to Mangers, there is an anticipated 600 total participants between both the 5K road race and one-mile Fun Run.
Each participant receives a t-shirt and three raffle tickets. Prizes for the raffle tickets were generously donated by local Moorpark businesses such Blush, Jersey Mikes, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Park Lane Car Wash and several more.
The preparation and planning for both races have been a collaborative effort between community officials, athletic staff at MHS, students, and families.
“We have a great group of parents and students who have worked very hard to make this a first class event,” said Mangers.
The 5K is $40 and the one-mile Fun Run is $30. All proceeds benefit Moorpark High School’s Cross Country and Track & Field Programs.
