Moorpark College’s own feminist club, Feminism Today, seeks to spread awareness and educate students about modern feminism.
“We want people to be aware of what feminism means,” said Alyssa Wilson, president of Feminism Today. “It is equality between the sexes, socially, politically and economically.”
The club meets one to two times a month in Fountain Hall 213 on Tuesdays, this Tuesday being the first of those meetings.
Feminism Today celebrates Her Story month, March, and will continue to put together various activities for women’s appreciation.
Once such activity is Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, an event where men walk a mile in heels to advocate gender equality. This will take place on April 11.
The club, now about 20 members strong, hopes to add more members and build support in the future.
“I hope that it goes on after I leave,” Wilson said.
