The Rethinking Ideal Socially Expected Club, otherwise known as the R.I.S.E. Club, is a new club on campus that challenges societies ideas by developing unique, individual perspectives, while maintaining a community attitude.
Club President Clarise Compton, a fourth semester communication major, explained the several goals of the club and why it is important.
“[To] build a community of activists of several people to better their own lives, other people’s lives, help Moorpark [and the surrounding communities] and to definitely have fun,” said Compton.
The club wants its members to feel apart of a community, have a reason to stay and be involved on campus, have fun, swap ideas, and to learn several new things each time they meet.
R.I.S.E. plans to have a beach clean-up day later in the spring semester and are also scheduled to team up with Cal State University Channel Islands for an Earth Day Event.
Weekly meetings are scheduled Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. at Fountain Hall and monthly meetings will be held once a month to discuss each month’s theme and topic.
This months theme is Consumerism Awareness.
