Moorpark College has been listed in the top 50 community colleges in the United States and is fifth out of the six Californian colleges mention by TheBestSchools.org (TBS).
TBS is an independent organization that functions mainly as an evaluator and aggregator of online information of a wide variety of aspects of higher education, said James A. Barham, a general editor at TBS.
Moorpark College was ranked 35 in TBS’s top 50 community colleges after researchers/writers went through the internet for information and then synthesize that information to the various criteria TBS provides for their researchers/writers.
“We try to position ourselves at the high end of the online education information market by placing primary emphasis on academic quality,” said Barham.
Barham said that the list can be defined in various ways, but it boils down to the quality of faculty measured by degrees and publication activity.
According to TBS the following are a few reasons why Moorpark College was placed 35.
Moorpark College offers 1,500 classes each semester and it also includes a wide variety of transfer majors for bachelor’s degree and programs that can lead to associate degrees and certificates of achievement.
Based on the enrollment, the college ranks second for transfers to the University of California and California State University system in the state and has established more than 1,325 articulation-by-major agreements with them including private or independent colleges and universities.
Another reason is that the college has unique learning services such as the E.A.T.M. program, which is an on-site teaching zoo, Charles Temple Observatory, the only public observatory in Ventura County, Performing Art Center, and Child Development Center.
Interim President Dr. Bernard Luskin said that on behalf of the Chancellor, Board of Trustees and himself they are proud of their exceptional staff and faculty at Moorpark College.
“Our college is made up of a real team, in a wonderful learning community made up of students, faculty, and staff working together in sharing and striving to achieve our dream,” said Luskin.
The success of each student is important said Luskin, and to him and others that work with students, success is a journey that they are proud to be a part of.
“Getting started is one of the most significant factors in getting ahead,” said Luskin. “There is no better place than Moorpark College for getting started.”
