The Raiders men’s volleyball team lost in straight sets to the visiting Warriors on Friday night in the Raider Pavilion. This was the Raiders first home game in WSC play.
The Raiders kept it close in every set, but El Camino found a way to win when the sets got tight. The Warriors are a tough opponent, entering the game with an overall record of 10-1. This did not stop the Raider’s from fighting, but it was the mentality again that hurt the Raiders.
“It came down to mental toughness at the end of the game,” said head coach, Aaron Hedland. “We were a little bit passive, and they were more aggressive.”
The mental side of the game has plagued the Raiders in the past, and same was true for Friday night. They were in all three sets, but were not able to complete that tough serve, or dig the fast return.
“It’s about taking the win,” said Michael Esper.
Esper led the Raiders with 13 kills, three digs, and two service aces. Nickolas Shoemate, the outside hitter and setter, led the way in assists, totaling 26 in the losing effort.
The Raiders are now 1-2 in WSC play and look to rebound Wednesday, as the travel to Long Beach City College.
