The 14th annual Student Talent Show, presented by the Associated Students, is scheduled for April 9, 2015 in the Cafeteria from 5 p.m-7 p.m. where students will have the opportunity to not only showcase their talents, but also to interact with the student body.
With a range of 12-16 acts scheduled to perform, Mayra Contreras, Associated Students vice president, is anticipating the biggest and most fun talent show yet. It can be any kind of talent, including singing or dancing, she said.
“Students can go outside their mind and be as creative as possible,” said Contreras.
Contreras said that the Associated Students’ main goal is for students to share their experiences with one another, meet people, and make new friends. The talent show hopes to bring students together with a common bond and make students feel part of a community.
“We want students to share all their individual talents with other students as well as for the audience to see that Moorpark College has talent and to display that for everyone,” said Contreras
On April 9, there will be three winners. The first place prize is a $300 value. The first place winner will have a choice of either accepting $300 cash, or a scholarship worth $300. The scholarship will be dedicated to winning the 2015 Student Talent Show and can be applied to anything. The second place winner will receive a prize of $200 and the third place winner will walk away with $100.
Throughout the night, there will be a raffle and many prizes will be given away. Most prizes include gift cards of $5 to local places such as Starbucks, Best Buy, and Jamba Juice.
Another goal of the Associated Students, is to educate both participants and audience members of the many services that Moorpark College has to offer that most students aren’t aware of.
Auditions for the talent show are from March 25-March 27 in the Conference Room in the Dining Hall.
