The Raiders consistent pitching, solid work on defense, and timely hitting led to a 6-2 win over Rio Hondo College.

Pitcher Jake Eaton’s command was very strong throughout his six innings on the mound. In that time, he gave up a double to Rio Hondo’s Nick Carino and a single to Nick Piraino. After that, he pitched 3 hitless innings.

“Pitching went well. Jake struggled a little but he got better his last two innings were good,” said head coach Mario Porto. “The pitching is the name of the game.”

Shortstop Terrell Tate displayed great versatility throughout the entire game. Tate’s strong fielding skills at shortstop were on display during the entire game. Tate later showed he is a clutch hitter with men on base.

Tate praised the teams pitching when it came to his consistent work at shortstop.

“The pitchers were throwing strikes keeping the game going with good momentum, which kept us on our toes on defense, so we could make plays.” said Tate.

Infielder Thomas Luevano was very active throughout the game, scoring on two of his RBI’s. In the second half of the game, the Raiders were able to rattle Rio Grande’s pitcher Chris Butcher. Luevano’s single into center field brought in an RBI and he managed to steal second base.

In the top of the seventh inning, relief pitcher Brian Mayberry entered the game. He struck out the second batter he faced and managed to get out of the inning with a man on second and third. Mayberry later finished out the game on the mound.
