One of the biggest components of this years’ Multicultural Day on Tuesday was the vast variety of vendors and food trucks available for students to browse.
Sticking with the cultural theme, food trucks came to campus representing all types of food and students came ready to feast. The food trucks offered a wide variety of food ranging from Italian desserts to Asian lunch cuisine.
Vendors were scattered out in front of the cafeteria, with merchandise ranging from materialistic items such as clothes, jewelry and backpacks, to more specialty things like dreamcatchers, incense and cultural dolls.
Blake Gurrola, a 19-year-old communication major, said that his first impression of Multicultural Day was pure happiness.
“I took a little browse around and I was amazed,” said Gurrola. “You have a Pakistani booth next to a Hispanic booth. It’s amazing to me that everyone can come together as one.”
Aldair Villasenor, also a communication major, felt similar to Gurrola.
“You realize that even though people have different perspectives and views, we all come together to share our beliefs and ideas,” said Villasenor.
A popular booth was La Catrina, owned by Paty Diaz. This was Diaz’s fifth year at Moorpark College and was thrilled to have her cultural gift shop represented at Multicultural Day.
“I focus mostly on the Day of the Dead,” said Diaz. “It’s cool [to be here] because I don’t have to pay a vendor fee and I also get to promote my business. I bring affordable things to purchase and overall, I enjoy it!”
