The Career Transfer Center is hosting Major Awareness Week, a campus-wide event where students can learn about career opportunities from professionals, faculty and clubs.
On April 21-24, students can attend activities, info sessions and workshops to learn more about different majors and fields. This event, open to all students, will help them decide on career paths, majors and deciding where to transfer, according to Judi Gould, the Career Transfer Center Coordinator.
Gould said that many students at community college focus on their General Education requirements while overlooking their major requirements, even though many of these classes overlap. She wants students to learn how to work toward their degree most efficiently.
“The goal is to get students thinking about their major while they’re here,” Gould said.
There will be anywhere from 15 to 20 events in a variety of fields and majors. Some of the events are: an LAPD and FBI Meet & Greet for Administration of Justice majors, a Business Expo put on by the Business Department, the “Dinner with the Anthro Winners” hosted by the Anthropology Department and the Nursing Department Speakers Panel for Health Sciences majors, according to the official website.
In addition to info sessions and presentations, the Career Transfer Center will host the workshop, “Quick Tips to Choosing a Major & a Transfer University.”
Further information about individual workshops and their times can be found at the Career Transfer Center, or on http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/departments/student-services/career-services.
