Moorpark College students who think California State University, Northridge is an easy college to get into should think again.

Over the past five years, CSUN has increased its student body by over 3,000 students but did not receive increased funds to meet this new demand according to the CSUN website. Thus, the university is limiting the amount of applicants it plans to accept in 2016-2017.

CSUN will limit the number of transfer students admitted in four majors: psychology, kinesiology, music, and cinema and television arts. They are also limiting freshman admissions.

As a student at Moorpark College, here are four things you should keep in mind when applying to CSUN.

1. Students who are applying for spring 2016 need an Associate’s Degree for Transfer in the major they are applying to by the time that semester starts, according to Judi Gould, the Career Transfer Center coordinator. The only exception applies to veterans and international students.

2. Students with a major in psychology, kinesiology, music, or cinema and television arts will be expected to have a higher GPA. Gould said there is no doubt this will affect the GPA requirements of Moorpark College students in these majors.

“The question is how much,” said Gould. “Will it be a 2.7 or a 3.7?”

3. In Ventura County, all freshman admissions at CSUN will be impacted starting in the fall. This means they are limiting admissions from all high schools in Ventura County including the High School at Moorpark College.

4. All student applying to CSUN need 60 transferable units and the Golden Four Classes which are math, English, critical thinking and speech.
