The Moorpark College’s Orchestra completed their last performance of the semester with an outstanding rendition of “Planets,” one of the most difficult symphonies of all time.
Accompanied by the Women’s chorus, this show was definitely one of a kind. There were seven movements completed that represented each planet. The performance was sold out and the excitement expressed by the audience was truly magical.
Music Director James Song, said his favorite part of the show would, without a doubt, have to be the Planets, especially the Jupiter Movement.
“I thought the orchestra did well on all seven movements,” Song said in an email. “It was an enjoyable setting with the full house and the orchestra (a very large orchestra with some unusual instruments) performing very energetic music.”
The magnitude and difficulty that the songs held was at an all time high, but, and in return, it was a great accomplishment for the music department to have succeeded. Audience members thoroughly enjoyed the performance and commented on how incredible and full the orchestra sounded. Having the choir join added inspiration to the planet being represented.
“It was a monumental project that needed every member of the orchestra to think along the same line and I felt that we pulled it off last night,” said Song.
Alex Sanchez, an engineering major at MC, said the Saturn movement had to be his favorite of the night.
“The way the strings just broke out and filled the room with everything they had, that was great,” said Sanchez. “The acoustics were great in the room.”
