The Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees appointed former interim Moorpark College President Dr. Bernard Luskin as acting chancellor on a 5-0 vote on Tuesday.

Luskin will start his term as acting chancellor on July 1.

“I’m pleased to help in any way I can,” said Luskin.

It was announced on May 6 that Chancellor Jamillah Moore will no longer be the chancellor at the end of the fiscal year, June 30. She will be with the district as a consultant to ease the transition for the interim chancellor  until Dec 31, said Trustee Chair Dianne McKay.

There is no policy on how to hire an interim chancellor, said McKay.

According to the meeting’s agenda Luskin will be receiving a monthly salary of $15,281 and monthly benefits of $5,000 general funds.

The budget for the search of an interim chancellor should not to exceed more then $25,000 General Fund-Unrestricted Reserves, according to the agenda.

At the meeting the board also approved James Walker, from Community College Search Services, to be the consultant for the search of the interim chancellor search process.

Luskin was appointed Moorpark College’s interim president back in 2014 and then left office earlier this year when the district hired Dr. Luis Sanchez as president.
