Puppies, evening club events and hydration stations are all ideas the Associated Students proposed for this year, in their first meeting of the semester on Tuesday.

A.S. President Ashley Rasmussen said she wants to find more ways to communicate with students, in particular, through the use of suggestions boxes.

“I want to get the conversations going between us [the A.S.] and the students,” Rasmussen said.

Neema Sheshebor, the finance director, said he wants a “de-stress” day for students during finals week. He wants to coordinate with outside businesses to bring in puppies for students to play with during that day.

Lawrence Kelly, the constitution and rules director, said he wants more student activities such as a club rush for students who take night classes.

“I don’t want those students to feel left out,” Kelly said.

External Affairs Director Patrick Nordstrom said he wants a hydration station in every building and floor on campus.

A.S. also listened to the presentations given by Health Center Coordinator Sharon Manakas and the Dean of Student Learning Patricia Ewins.

Manakas gave a brief introduction on the range of services that the health center offers. She also explained new campus policies that will make the college a completely smoke free campus by next August.

Ewins said she looked forward to working with the A.S. and urged them to approach her whenever they have any questions.

A.S. will have its next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Campus Center in Associated Students Conference Room. The meeting will start at 2:30 p.m.
