Students were given an opportunity to make new friends and experience a sense of community on campus during Club Rush on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Mickenzie Cornwall, an 18-year-old film major, introduced herself to several different clubs before she decided to join the Fitness, Business and Film Clubs.
“Me and my friends really want to join clubs together since we don’t have any classes together,” said Cornwall.
The goal of Club Rush is for student organizations to come out and show what they represent, according to Richard Real, the coordinator of Club Rush and director of student organizations on campus.
Eighteen clubs attended Club Rush today in order to recruit new members. Real estimates about 200 students walked through Raider Walk to check out the clubs’ booths.
“A lot of people don’t even know they are clubs until a day like this happens,” said Real.
Daniel Rathaus, President of the Magician’s Society, took advantage of this opportunity to recruit new members to his club by showing card tricks to attract attention.
“I want to share my passion and give students a hobby that they can work on for the rest of their life,” said Rathaus.
This is the Magician Society’s first semester on campus as well.
Club Rush will also be taking place Thursday, Sept. 10 as well as Oct. 13 and 14. Real expects even more clubs to attend next month’s club rush.
