In a matter of weeks, Cal State and UC schools will begin accepting applications and it is a good idea to prepare yourself ahead of time, according to campus counselors.

Gema Ortiz, 19-year-old business major, is excited to welcome the next two months because it’ll help her get a better understanding of what to expect next year.

“I know I’m not transferring until Fall of 2017 but I have friends who are transferring next Fall and I want to see, based on what they have to go through, what to expect,” said Ortiz.

Cal State applications will begin on Oct. 1 and UC applications on Nov. 1 and both have their deadlines set for Nov. 30.

Moorpark College makes sure to provide its students with services that can help them complete the process when applying to Universities.

Donald Munshower, the Career Transfer Center coordinator and counselor, encourages students to meet with a counselor early to develop an education plan together and learn about the transfer process.

“The UC schools have a Transfer Admission Planner that is a great tool for applying and students can start this now, even if they aren’t transferring for two to three years,” said Munshower. “This planner also connects to assist.org which will help students learn which classes are UC transferable and will also calculate their UC transferable G.P.A. It’s a great tool!”

Sam Garcousha, a 19-year-old psychology major, isn’t quite sure what to expect and has visited counselors to help her with the process. She still worries about not completing her requirements.

“There’s more than just filling out an application and submitting it and because a lot more is required, it scares me,” said Garcousha. “The most stressful part about this will probably be to think about what I’ll have to say in my personal statement and how I will write it.”

Fees can also be an issue when submitting an application. Although Munshower assures Moorpark College offers assistance to those with financial difficulties.

“[Applications are} $55 for the CSU schools and $70 for the UC schools,” said Munshower. “Application fee waivers are available for qualified students.”

Various services are provided on campus for students to obtain the assistance necessary to complete their application process such as transfer workshops.
