Women’s volleyball took on the Citrus College Owls at Moorpark on Wednesday and defeated them in three games: 25-12, 26-24,and 25-22.
The Lady Raiders started off strong and looked unstoppable in their first game with the Owls, but made mistakes in their second and third games.
Head Coach Steve Burkhart was very happy with the teams victory, but said there is still a lot of work to be done in practice before they take on their first conference opponent this weekend.
“I think we were good when we needed to be good,” said Burkhart. “We had moments of where we saw stuff we aren’t used to seeing from a team.”
Burkhart believes they need to work on their blocking and passing more.
The Lady Raiders were led to victory by team captain Cassidy Simental’s 24 total assists through the three games. The other team leaders were: Cindy Norris, who led the team with 13 kills, and Sierra Joyner, who led the team with 28 digs.
Joyner, a sophomore, felt that the team played well and was consistent in getting the win.
“We’re usually kind of up and down,” said Joyner. “But tonight we stayed solid and that’s why we won.”
Joyner also said that she thought she played well, but needs to work on her passing a little more.
Alyssa Wilson was also happy to get the win and close out a close game with an opponent.
“I think we did pretty well,” said Wilson. “We did really well on closing the games and I think that it’s a good sign for conference play.”
Wilson is also very excited to start conference play and to get the chance to play the conference’s top team.
“Hell yeah we’re ready for conference play,” said Wilson. “Friday we’re gonna kick ass I hope!”
The Lady Raiders will open up with conference play this Friday at Pierce College. The team will not play at home again until Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. when they take on Santa Barbara City College.
