Thousands of students and community members lined the streets to get the best view of the parade at the Moorpark Country Days celebration. There, they eagerly awaited marching bands, dancers and various other fun activities.
The 2015 Moorpark Country Days was held Oct. 3 on Historical High St where four thousand attendants checked out 100 vendors along with band performances and other family friendly exhibits according to the festivals website. Moorpark College students and allumni participated in the parade and worked at booths as well as attended just to enjoy all the festival had to offer.
After having performed in the parade for four years in his high school band, Kyle Buchanan-Prescott, a 19-year-old theater arts major, was able to attend and enjoy all the activities the festival had to offer.
“It was nice to get to walk around and see all the booths and see how much effort the city puts into providing the most energetic festival of the year,” said Buchanan-Prescott.
After the parade at 10:30 a.m., the street fair began offering a variety of food, entertainment and vendors.
Several different Moorpark community organizations held tables at the event, among them including Moorpark College, Moorpark Historical Society and Moorpark Family Medical Clinic.
While several of the vendors were informational, others offered free gifts and raffles at their booths. With just the spin of a wheel, Muvico Thousand Oaks, offered the chance to win free movie tickets, movie posters and several other prizes.
Other vendors sold a variety of items that varied from specialty made jewelry to different flavored bacon and beef jerky.
“I like spending money on stupid things,” said Buchanan-Prescott. “I bought an eight dollar bag of beef jerky.”
Other exhibits were especially for kids, with the successful goal of getting the whole family involved. The Kids Fun Zone featured hand stamps, photo booths and an animal show.
For the food lovers, the festival provided a variety of options including Gourmet Vegan, a Grilled Cheese food truck, Shave It and The Habit Burger Grill.
All the while, music performances from the Moorpark College Jazz Band, CGS Guitar Studios, Ballet Folklorico and Old Country Grass Band filled the streets.
