Moorpark women’s volleyball got swept on Wednesday in their home conference game against Santa Barbara City College.
The Lady Raiders lost in three sets: 25-17, 25-22 and 25-19.
Head coach Steve Burkhart knew that Santa Barbara is the best and do not give other teams a lot of chances.
“If you don’t play consistently against them [Santa Barbara], then you’re going to be in for a long night,” said Burkhart. “We had spurts of playing well, and then not playing well and doing a bunch of dumb things.”
Moorpark freshman Cindy Norris had a good performance with 13 kills, 13 digs, three spikes and a total of 13 points for her team.
Norris felt they played great considering Santa Barbara was a tough team.
“When we add more communication to our game, I feel like we’ll be a really good team,” said Norris. “Next time we play Santa Barbara we will beat them for sure.”
Meghan Conlan and Sierra Joyner also performances well. Conlan had 10 kills, three spikes, 15 digs, and a total of 12 points for her team. Joyner had three spikes, 23 digs, and a total of two points.
Rebecca Sexton had two spikes and a half point for her team. She felt that everyone tried to work hard as a team.
“We kind of made bonehead errors as our coach would say, so that would make us fall back a little,” said Sexton. “Then we would try to push back and it would go back and forth, but we were just down too much.”
Burkhart feels the team will have to cut down on their errors for the rest of the season.
“You can’t beat anybody with 25 shooting errors,” said Burkhart. “That’s not going to cut it. Hopefully we can do a better job.”
The Lady Raiders’ next home game will be next Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. against another conference opponent, L.A. Mission College.
