A ghostly weekend is coming up for America’s Teaching Zoo with lots of decorating, trick-or-treating, a costume parade, arts and crafts for kids and fun animal shows.

America’s Teaching Zoo is hosting its annual Halloween fundraiser, Boo At the Zoo, which is open to the public on Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All the proceeds for Boo at the Zoo help support America’s Teaching Zoo. Every ticket sold helps with the exhibits, feed and animal care. This is one of the biggest celebrations the zoo hosts each year, according to Mara Rodriguez, a zoo operations staff member.

“We hope to get a lot of guests and support our zoo,” said Rodriguez. “All of their admissions goes [to] and supports our zoo. We hope to see everybody out here.”

Rodriguez states that fundraising events such as Boo at the Zoo are a great chance for the community to visit and learn about the animals.

“We try to look at it like a fun opportunity for the public to come see the zoo in a different light,” said Rodriguez. “It is all based around the Halloween theme.”

A new feature to this year’s event is that the student body is having a decorating competition within each animal area. The guests will get to see the winner of the decorating contest.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children (2-12) and seniors (65+). Kids 2 and under are free.

America’s Teaching Zoo is located at 7075 Campus Road Moorpark, CA 93021.
