With many university applications due Nov. 30, students are scrambling to find that something extra to make their applications stand a cut above the rest.
Moorpark College Career Transfer Center Coordinator Donny Munshower advises that in addition to meeting the required GPA and other transfer course requirements, volunteering can be an asset in the application process.
“Getting involved with the Kiwanis Club or other organizations like that looks very good on the application,” he said.
For those still searching for that answer, getting involved with the Kiwanis Club, and volunteering at one of their upcoming events may just be the opportunity you are looking for.
Kiwanis Club is an organization of volunteers with the goal of helping children across the globe. In our local area alone, there is a chapter of the club in Moorpark and Simi Valley.
“Kiwanis Club has always been a club dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time”, said Simi Valley chapter President Michele Bennett. “Also for the benefit of the community we live in, and teaching kids the benefits of volunteering”.
Volunteering is also an opportunity to connect and work with people from all walks of life.
The Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley will be holding a Veterans Day lunch service at Rancho Tapo Community Park on Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. They will be preparing a lunch of pulled pork sandwiches which will be free to all veterans.
