Hey, Raiders!

I hope this week went well for you all. I want to remind you that I have office hours every week on Wednesday’s from 4-7 PM, and Thursday’s from 1-5 PM, so please do not feel like your voice is not being heard and there’s no one out there for you… that’s why you have student leaders on campus! Feel free to stop by at any hour during the times listed. I would love to meet with you!

With that said, I wanted to let you all know that I received your input about our wifi on campus, and I want to begin by saying that I understand that our wifi has not been ideal, but we are working toward making it faster and better for our students. I am also meeting with a few of our officials on campus that are in charge of the wifi, so I am following up with all of your concerns/requests. Thank you to those who answered the weekly question left out by the microwaves that asked about the wifi! We have weekly questions in the cafeteria every week and questions on the student voice web page, so be sure to check them out and give us your responses. To clarify, we DO look at every individual response and take it into consideration, so every single response is important.

This week your student government met on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 2:30 PM (our usual meeting time this semester), and we discussed how we could best honor our veteran’s for the Veteran’s Day holiday on November 11, 2015. It will be further discussed at next week’s meeting on November 10, 2015, but the board unanimously agreed that it would be a good idea to distribute official thank you certificates and American flag clothing pins to all 136 veterans we have on campus to thank them for their service. And of course don’t forget that we have this coming Monday off for Veteran’s Day, and next Wednesday we will be celebrating Veteran’s Day on campus in front of the Administration building from 12-3 PM.

Student government is also taking a trip next weekend, November 13-15 to Sacramento to a conference called “SSCCC,” which stands for Student Senate for California Community Colleges. Here, your student leaders will discuss and debate for/against resolutions that are currently being considered. We also discussed some of these resolutions and our potential stances on them, and at next week’s meeting we will continue this discussion.

We would love to see more of you at our board meetings. If you have an interest in serving your student body, social dynamics, politics, or anything of the like, be sure to attend at least one of our meetings. You may surprise yourself. And as always, feel free to contact your student leaders or visit them during their office hours if you have specific concerns/questions, or would just like to meet them. Their emails and office hours are listed on the following webpage:

Thank you all for allowing me to serve you this year. It gives me great joy to know I work for such wonderful people.

Best to you all,

Ashley Brianna Rasmussen
