Power outage shocks Moorpark College
November 17, 2015
A freak power outage left students and faculty questioning what went wrong after the lights went out earlier this afternoon.
Sharon Miller, Associated Students adviser was mainly concerned with the students’ well-being.
“I walked out with a flashlight to check on the students,” said Miller. “The phone calls come through the computers so we couldn’t call out.”
The campus was up and running shortly after the outage, but Director of Information Technology Services Dan McMichael said he didn’t know why it happened to the college or the surrounding area.
“We have a pretty good infrastructure and our most important systems are protected,” said McMichael.
Moorpark College student Tucker Boze, 19, history major, was confused when he was suddenly locked in the student bookstore.
“I [couldn’t] understand the lowering of the gate,” said Boze. ” What does it accomplish?”
Students seemed to be unfazed in their professor’s scheduled lesson plans, explained neuroscience major Nicole Arasteh, 22.
“It’s happened before,” said Arasteh. “The backup lights were nice. It didn’t really affect our lesson.”
