It’s sweater weather again! We are now entering the cooler season and winter fashion is in session.

From a pair of knee-high boots to a simple knitted cardigan, an outfit can be turned from casual to chic. For men, accessories can range from a scarf to a beanie, and can change their ensemble to a more sophisticated look.

In an article on Cosmopolitan’s website by Charles Manning titled “8 Hottest Fall Trends You Need to Buy NOW,” winter trends such as over-the-knee boots, long floral dresses, and suede skirts are this year’s must-haves.

According to Manning, over-the-knee boots are a hot item this winter and are even versatile.

“They are great worn over skinny pants or paired with a super short skirt so that only a sliver of skin is visible between the hem and the top of the boot,” said Manning.

For long floral dresses Manning offers some tips and suggestions for weather changes.

“Stick to lightweight fabrics with just a touch of sheerness to make sure your dress flows with you as you walk, then, when the temperature starts to dip, layer your dress over black tights and pair it with a long menswear-inspired coat in camel, black, grey or navy for a truly fashion-forward look,” said Manning.

Regarding suede skirts, Manning describes the item as one you cannot go wrong with.

“You’ll never go wrong with a simple A-line suede mini, but if you want to be really on-trend, look for a skirt with a bit of a ’70s vibe- decorative front closures, exterior stitching around the pockets, or fringe,” said Manning.

The GQ website, in an article, “8 Can’t Fail Shirt-and-Tie Combos For Fall” by Liza Corsillo, provides videos with great tips for men that can quickly have their attire looking the sharpest.

They show how a simple patterned tie with a checkered collar shirt can quickly be paired along with a plain collar shirt matched with a striped tie leading to a night out on the town.

Students discuss their winter fashion styles, from comfortable knitted sweaters to knee-socks. Many shared a common favorite winter fashion element, the over-the-knee boots, which can be found at local retailers such as Target or Kohl’s.

Jennifer Bryan, 20, communications major, says how her winter attire of knee-high boots, leggings, sweaters, and scarfs do not only look stylish, but are comfortable to wear.

“I choose them, because leggings are extremely comfortable to wear as well as it looks like you actually tried in the morning, it looks fashionable.” said Bryan.

Elise Moler, 20, communications major, says her style consisting of leggings, knee-high boots, oversized sweaters, and jean jackets are beneficial.

“They look put together, you can mix a lot of items together without really having to come up with a different outfit everyday,” said Moler.

These are some fashion gems that can have you looking not only stylish but also comfortable this winter season.
