Classes aren’t the only new thing this spring, former vice president Julie Gonzalez has taken the position as Associated Student president.

Gonzalez stepped forward to assume the position as president after former A.S. President Ashley Rasmussen’s resignation on Jan. 8 due to personal reasons.

“She really did put in a lot of effort to support everyone’s projects,” Gonzalez said. “She really tried to make a friendly environment.”

Gonzalez intends to continue Rasmussen’s work by supporting the individual board members’ projects and advocating for student involvement.

Board members showed their sympathy for Rasmussen’s decision to resign however still seem eager to move forward and continue supporting students.

Associated Students Advisor Sharon Miller was optimistic that the board members will continue on with their projects.

“We will keep moving forward,” Miller said. “We will work on the hydration stations and supporting the student organizations and their activities.”

Nothing but positive things were said about Rasmussen and her efforts during her time as Associated Students president.

“A good leader takes people where they want to go, a great leader takes people where they need to be,” Miller said. “She’s a great leader.”

Rasmussen credits the A.S. for giving her the confidence and vigor that she now embodies.

“I owe it to the wonderful staff and faculty we have on campus for helping me get as far as I am today,” said Rasmussen. “It has been the experience of a lifetime to be part of such a magnificent journey.”

Regardless of her resignation, Rasmussen still has the ambition to help the student body whether that be by her services in the tutoring center or assisting during events.

“I will still be on campus and am more than willing to help student government and the school overall with anything if the need arises,” said Rasmussen. “It has been a pleasure serving you.”
