Administrative Center is approved to move from Ventura to Camarillo
January 21, 2016
Relocation of the District Administrative Center from Ventura to Camarillo was approved by the Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees on Jan. 19.
“Our current lease expires January 2017,” said Interim Vice Chancellor David Keebler. “We would like to move out by December 2016.”
The 39,936 square foot office building, on 730 Paseo Camarillo, purchase price is being negotiated at $5.1 million with closing cost being an additional $100,000. The district is also expected to fund $2.3 million for building renovations and improvements, according to Keebler.
“We had the options of continuing our current lease or approving a centrally located property,” said Keebler.
The Administrative Center is where the VCCCD is located and where meetings, such as the Board of Trustees, are held.
On Dec. 13, 2011, the board approved to extend the lease with the Ventura Unified School District for five years for $33,645 per month between 2015 and 2016. The lease allows a month-to-month option if they need to lease beyond the ending date, according to Keebler.
The district management is looking into selling the 43.27 acres of property along Las Posas Road and Pleasant Valley Road of the Camarillo Airport property. The 15,999 acre on the northern parcel will possibly be sold for $6,272,500 in order to purchase the building, according to the board of trustees agenda.
The board also approved the use of the $1,192,976 available from the 1998 Certificate of Participation to also be used in the purchase of the building.
