The Lady Raiders opened up their 2016 softball season at home on Friday with an impressive 4-2 victory over Pasadena and currently hold a 1-0 record for the season.
The Lady Raiders came out strong in the first inning and went up 2-0 with a 2 run double by McKenna Dungca. They later extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning. Pasadena answered back in the fifth inning, but the Lady Raiders went on to finish the game with a final score of 4-2.
Assistant Coach Ginny Mitchell was delighted by the effort the team put in for their first game of the season.
“This win helps us start off on a really good note,” said Mitchell. “It gives us confidence to begin the season.”
Raiders’ pitcher Caitlin Vinyard emphasized on how the team had a good start and remained calm and confident to finish out the game.
“I felt we came out strong and then we never gave up,” said Vinyard. “We were kind of burnt out in the fifth inning and then got a little team talk going on and then we got it going again.”
Not only are the Lady Raiders excited going into this season, but they also have high expectations. They are also very content with the team they currently have and anticapte the rest of the season.
“We have a lot of good players, a solid center up the middle so its looking good.” said Raiders Catcher, Lacee Smollen.
The Lady Raiders hope to keep on rolling with their season as they play their next game on Feb. 2 at LA Valley College.
