After suffering their first loss of the season last week the Lady Raiders came out to play with a dominant 24-5 win over Santa Monica City College on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
The Lady Raiders improved to an impressive 6-1 overall record as they sit on top of the conference.
The Lady Raiders quickly jumped out on top in the first inning taking a 3-0 lead. They later extended their lead to 13-1 in the second inning with a grand slam by catcher Lacee Smollen. They then hit back-to-back homeruns by McKenna Dungca and Ashlee Vasquez and found themselves with a 20-4 lead at the top of the fourth. The team then went on to win the game with a final score of 24-5.
Not only was Head Coach David Fox impressed by the efforts put together by his young team, but the fact that they continued to play at such a high level throughout the game despite Santa Monica being a weaker team was truly remarkable.
“This win was good today because we were able to get everyone in the game today to get some experience,” said Fox. “Almost every player had some success which will really helps the team as a whole.”
Raiders’ pitcher Caitlyn Vinyard emphasized on what it meant to bounce back to winning ways.
“It felt nice to win by that much,” said Vinyard. “It was kinda a reality check last week because we were so used to winning but we mercied both times since that game.”
The Lady Raiders have regained their confidence and, according to Raiders shortstop Jazmin Macias, they know exactly what they have to do to be back up and on it.
“Hopefully we carry this momentum into the next game,” said Macias. “We need to come out stronger than this and keep winning.”
The Lady Raiders are enjoying playing well and are looking forward to playing their double header at home on Saturday Feb. 20 at 12 p.m and 2 p.m against LA Harbor.
