There are millions of fun activities to do in Los Angeles, but there’s one that will have you laughing until your stomach hurts.
Comedy clubs have taken the world by storm and to no one’s surprise, they are a big hit and have become a regular hot spot for teens and young adults. One can go to a comedy club and see all sorts of entertainment from improvisation, stand up comedy and sketches.
Zade Batarseh, 22-year-old kinesiology major, just recently discovered comedy clubs after his friends recommended that he go.
“I honestly really loved it,” said Batarseh. “It was a really funny show! Me and my friends sat in the front so we got picked on a lot to participate, but overall it was a good time.”
If you’re looking for a fun and interactive comedy club, a place to grow as a comedian, or simply watch some hilarious shows, the LA Connection Comedy Theater provides different opportunities for all ages.
Kent Skov, owner of the LA Connection Comedy Theater, founded the club back in 1977. Skov and 15 other performers ventured out to perform during an audition on pure talent and won, said Skov. They then started performing in Venice Beach with great success.
“At one point we had over 500 people watching us perform,” said Skov. “That popularity is how we got people to come watch us in our theater.”
The club has been around for over 39 years now, according to Skov. Although it has changed locations, it has still maintained that same stamina.
For Kylie N. McCue, 19-year-old child development major, her first comedy club was the L.A. Connection Comedy Theater and she loved every second of it.
“I think at one point I was laughing so much I actually had a stomach ache,” said McCue. “You could tell the actors really love what they do, so that really added to my enjoyment of the show.”
The L.A. Connection Comedy Theater is a small but intimate club where the audience can really enjoy watching extremely talented performers. The performers aren’t shy about getting the audience involved, whether it’s bringing them up on stage or having them become active members of the show.
The L.A. Connection Comedy Theater is an all-ages venue with different shows and opportunities for everyone. Tickets are $10 and you can stay all night if seating is available.
Skov would also like to extend 50-percent-off ticket prices to anyone who is currently attending Moorpark College. Just present a Moorpark College ID when purchasing tickets.

Another comedy club is the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and according to LA Weekly, it’s one of the top ten comedy clubs to visit in Los Angeles.
Derek Mott, 21-year-old business administrative law major, loves attending comedy clubs and has been a fan for a while.
“They are good entertainment,” said Mott. “Every time I go, regardless of who I go with, I always have so much fun. I would totally recommend anyone to go.”
The Upright Citizens Brigade is a great place to watch some of the best comedians that L.A. has to offer. The venue also has space for education and creativity for performers and people who simply want to learn the craft and what it takes.
Some of the more popular improvisation shows include “Shitty Jobs,” staring Ben Schwartz, along with a bunch of other hilarious improvisors, and “Search History,” an improv show staring Nicole Byer and many more great performers as well. Another popular show is “ASSSSCAT” which is held Saturdays at UCB Franklin and on Sundays at UCB Sunset for free.
