‘1,000 Scholars’ returns for the summer semester

By Agustin Garcia

The “1,000 Scholars” mini-scholarship campaign has been extended to the summer semester for qualifying students.

Current students, who have a good academic standing and meet other criteria, will be able to take one extra class during the summer semester with tuition fees waived, according to the Ventura County Community College District’s press release on March 21.

“We are glad to be able to continue this program so that more students may take advantage of this opportunity,” said Moorpark College President Luis Sanchez in the press release. “Students should act quickly, however, since this is a limited time offer.”

This mini-scholarship only applies to summer 2016 classes that start on or after May 26 and if they are still open. Students must see a counselor and it will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will have to pay incidental costs such as the health center fee, which is $16 for summer session.

The previous “1,000 Scholars” awarded 120 scholarships that allowed enrollment fees to be waived for students who enrolled in late-start classes this semester back in Jan. 25.

The VCCCD has approximately 15,000 students enrolled and has students attending from over 52 countries.

For more information on “1,000 Scholars,” students should meet with a counselor.
