The Lady Raiders battled hard through 11 innings against conference rival Cuesta College, but ultimately fell short 1-0 on Thursday, March 17.
With their first conference loss, Moorpark has an overall record of 13-4 and 3-1 in conference. It was a quiet afternoon for offense as both teams went scoreless until the top of the 11 inning which is when Cuesta got on the board. Moorpark failed to answer back at the bottom of the 11 and this lead to them losing the game 1-0.
Bouncing back from a loss such as this one can be difficult, but Head Coach Dave Fox knows how to handle a loss such as this one and what his team has to do to return back to winning ways.
“It’s very hard right now but let them deal with it for a little bit,” said Fox. “Then put a good hard practice on them so they forget about today and go out and do something good on Tuesday.”
This game proved to be quite challenging at times, but sophomore Alisson Ramirez emphasized on what was not going right for them.
“Hitting for us was a challenge,” said Ramirez. “Usually we are pretty good with hitting but today it just wasn’t there at all.”
This team has great chemistry and is always there for one another, but freshman Julianne Rodriguez said the energy that they usually have was not present.
“I just feel like we need to pick each other up,” said Rodriguez. “Today everyone’s head was down and it’s hard to try to keep up heads of everyone on the team when it’s hard for me to keep my own head up.”
Moorpark knew what they had to do to come out on top but fell short.
“We didn’t do what we needed to do to win,” said Rodriguez. “We now need to work harder in practice, take extra grounders and extra hits.”
The Lady Raiders look to get back in the win column and avenge this loss as they play a double header against Ventura College on Tuesday, March 24.
