Cody Hoffman, a 20-year-old Moorpark College student and Simi Valley resident, was killed in the car crash on at approximately 10 a.m. on Monday, according to a news release by the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on the westbound 118 freeway east of Sycamore Drive. Hoffman’s vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree, resulting in fatal injuries.

He was on his way to class that morning, according to his memorial fund webpage.

Hoffman is remembered fondly by his classmates and friends.

“The world is at a loss,” said Dade McBride, 20, communications major. “Just as he brightened up our lives with cheerful fun and goodness, he is now up in the timeless heavens brightening up our stars.”

Ashley Percin, 21, nursing major, was with Hoffman the night before the accident.

“Still at this time I’m shocked and I feel like it’s all just a bad dream,” Percin said. “But I’m still eternally grateful that we got to laugh and joke around together and I got to hear ‘it’s so lit fam!’ one last time.”

As of this moment, a fundraiser for the family has raised $13,342 from 236 donors since the accident occurred.

No arrests have been made and possible witnesses are encouraged to call the CHP Moorpark office at (805) 553-0800.
